I think a great way to teach in the class room is to use a combination of standard methods and technology. For example in our classroom in the morning we sit together for circle time. This time is used to talk about our day and other things, we also end our day this way. I see how much the students enjoy it and also look forward to it. As the day progresses we move into technology, I see how they thrive on this because it is technology they are accustomed to. I have various games and programs that help with sight words, spelling and also math. This does not replace worksheets but in some cases it is way more beneficial because they are constantly engaged. I love to sit and see how the room flows with technology and also standard methods. Such an exciting time for us right now.

Mrs. Asburry's Apples

Thank you for stopping by my blog today.  My teaching philosophy has always been "Engage, engage, engage".  I love to let my students get their hands dirty and minds thinking.  Our classroom is always busy with something to do.   In the mornings, I like to engage the students in circle time, this gives us a chance as a group to simply be together and engage one another.  We go over announcements, if something is going on really special in someones life (like the birth of a sibling or someone's birthday) I allow that student to share.  This is also the time I let the students pick a chore for the week, as well as go over our calendar for the day.

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon!  This year's theme is "Under the Sea".  Our class will be going to the book fair on Monday, April 13th, if you would like to purchase any books please don't forget your money. Parents, don't forget to include enough money for taxes.  On Thursday April 17th, the PTA is hosting a family night and students can enter to win a coloring contest! This year we can also purchase books by going to: www.scholastic.com/griffin/mrsasburry. Any purchases made will go towards a donation to the school!
Color me and you could win a free book!
